Ekta Kapoor Has an Epic Reply for Why Talking about Women’s Sexual Desires Is 100% Normal
By now, everyone knows about Lipstick Under My Burkha, a film that was denied certification because it was "lady oriented." Because of the kind of publicity it has gotten, some people are very concerned about all the sex that will apparently be shown in the film, that too involving women being honest and unapologetic about their desire.
Recently, at the trailer launch of the film, a journalist posed this question to the cast, director Alankrita Shrivastava, and one of the producers, Ekta Kapoor. "Jis tarah se yeh film women's empowerment ke baare mein baat karta hai, jo aurtein lad rahi hain... kya aapko lagta hai ki sex ke mudde se hi hum isko prove kar sakte hain ya koi aur mudde pe bhi film banayi jaa sakti thi," she asked. After Shrivastava and Ratna Pathak Shah took turns answering the question, Kapoor took the mic and shut. It. Down.
"Sex humne bahut saalon se, when it comes to women, chhupaya hai. Aapse kaha jata hai ki aap khud ko dhako. Kyunki phir uss aadmi ka bhediya banna allowed hai... We're not being able to discriminate between sex and sexual crime. Sexual crime is a problem, consensual sex is not a problem," she said, among other highly quotable things.
