This Viral Poem About Why Girls Mature Faster Than Boys Is Spot on
From the day we're born, we're taught how to be conscious of ourselves, simply for being born female. We're constantly reminded of how we are women first, and then everything else. It's a biological fact that girls attain puberty before boys, and they mature at a more rapid rate. But the premature growing up that women go through has more social implications than scientific reasons.
To elucidate why women mature faster than men, Indian-American poet, Ena Ganguly, penned a poem that poignantly speaks about how, while girls are taught to be a certain way growing up, boys are let off easy, and are allowed to grow up at their own pace. Juxtaposed with her childhood photo, the poem highlights everything that's wrong with how we bring up boys and girls, and it does so beautifully.
