This Artist Reimagined Desi Erotic Temples’ Carvings So The Moral Police Won’t Object
Akshita Chandra, a student of Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Bangalore, recently made a series of GIFs to explain exactly what is wrong with our censorship-obsessed society. From Udta Punjab to Kama Sutra, nothing has been spared.
Talking about the project, Chandra told Vagabomb, "This project was the outcome of a project I had taken in my seventh semester. The course required the students to take a part of history and work with it. I wanted to ground my project in the contemporary, finding a point of interest in history. Through various mind maps and phases of research, I arrived at this juxtaposition – from Khajuraho to censorship. The artworks are dynamic and tactile. They are censored in a way that urges the viewer to participate with the narrative I laid out through the project and help 'uncensor' the pieces to find what is underneath."
